Polarized Light Microscopy (PLM)
Polarized Light Microscopy (PLM) is used for the determination of asbestos in bulk building materials and other samples such as soil and rock. Silicate minerals, including asbestos, have a crystal lattice that interacts with the light rays of the microscope. These interactions determine the optical properties and allow the mineral fibers to be identified. EMSL Analytical, Inc. maintains an in-house network of highly trained microscopists, geologists and chemists able to assist in customizing your analysis requirements.
