Workplace safety remains a critical issue in the United States. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), 5,070 fatal work injuries were recorded nationwide in 2024. In the same year, private employers reported approximately 2.5 million nonfatal workplace injuries and illnesses.

To raise awareness and promote safer work environments, the National Safety Council established National Safety Month in 1996. Observed every June, the month-long initiative encourages businesses, organizations, government agencies, and workers to examine workplace hazards and strengthen health and safety programs that reduce occupational injuries, illnesses, and fatalities.

The 2026 weekly themes for National Safety Month include:
