The New York Attorney General’s Office recently announced a settlement with two Syracuse landlords after an investigation identified widespread lead hazards and unsafe housing conditions across nearly two dozen rental properties. Investigators found repeated failures to address deteriorating lead-based paint and to provide legally required disclosures, contributing to elevated blood lead levels in at least seven children.

Under the settlement, the property owners must fund tenant relief, remediate hazards, and comply with strict oversight to meet housing and lead safety laws. The case highlights the serious legal, financial, and public health risks landlords face when regulations are ignored.
