Title Fungal Disease Awareness Week Highlights the Importance of Early Recognition, Testing, and Prevention
Introduction EMSL Analytical provides infection control and indoor environmental quality laboratory testing services, sampling supplies, test kits, and building inspection tools to help identify fungal growth, pathogens, and other contaminants.

Cinnaminson, New Jersey, September 14, 2026

The 10th annual Fungal Disease Awareness Week (FDAW) will take place September 14–18, 2026. Organized by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and its partners, FDAW raises awareness about fungal diseases and the importance of recognizing, diagnosing, treating, and preventing these infections.

According to the CDC, fungal diseases are increasing worldwide and are frequently misdiagnosed or undiagnosed. Delayed or incorrect diagnosis can result in severe or potentially chronic illness and, in some cases, can be life-threatening. The CDC also notes that misuse of antibiotics or antifungal medications may contribute to drug resistance, making awareness and appropriate testing increasingly important.

“Awareness of fungal diseases is important for healthcare professionals, patients, workers, and the public,” said Joe Frasca, Senior Vice President, Marketing at EMSL Analytical, Inc. “Recognizing potential fungal infections and pursuing appropriate diagnostic testing can help support an earlier and more accurate diagnosis. At the same time, identifying environmental conditions such as water damage, excessive moisture, and fungal growth can be an important part of addressing indoor environmental concerns.”

EMSL Analytical’s laboratories provide a range of infection control and indoor environmental quality (IEQ) testing services designed to help identify and characterize fungi and other potential contaminants. The company also offers sampling supplies, ready-to-use test kits, and building inspection tools to assist environmental professionals, consultants, facility managers, and other customers with sampling and assessment needs.

The CDC emphasizes that increased awareness can encourage patients and healthcare providers to consider fungal diseases and testing while helping advance research into prevention, diagnostics, and treatment.

EMSL previously sponsored an educational video highlighting Fungal Disease Awareness Week. The video remains available at https://youtu.be/T5y-dctOU2w
