Observed annually since 1944, National Farm Safety and Health Week takes place September 21–25, 2026. Led by the National Education Center for Agricultural Safety (NECAS), this year's theme is Safety Today, Success Tomorrow.
The observance comes during the busy and potentially dangerous fall harvest season and focuses on key daily themes:
- Monday, Sept. 21: Equipment and Rural Roadway Safety
- Tuesday, Sept. 22: Health and Wellness
- Wednesday, Sept. 23: Generations of Farming
- Thursday, Sept. 24: Confined Spaces
- Friday, Sept. 25: Cancer Prevention
With 417 fatalities recorded in 2022 by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, agriculture remains one of the nation’s most hazardous industries. Beyond physical injuries, workers can face environmental threats ranging from mold, bacteria, and pesticides to combustible dusts and toxic gases.
“There are millions of people employed in agriculture across the country, and protecting their safety and health is essential to the future of the industry,” said Joe Frasca, Senior Vice President of Marketing at EMSL Analytical, Inc. “Agricultural workers can be exposed to numerous hazards, including mold, bacteria, and viruses; dusts, including combustible dusts; fumes; insecticides; fungicides; disinfectants; and fertilizers. Hazardous gases can also pose serious risks, including elevated concentrations of carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, methane, hydrogen sulfide, ammonia, and other gases.”
EMSL Analytical’s environmental and industrial hygiene experts help protect ranchers, farmers, and agricultural workers. With laboratories across North America, EMSL offers testing for a wide range of hazards. EMSL also provides air monitoring instruments and personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators, to help agricultural operations identify and mitigate potential exposure risks.
